Grímsvötn is a volcano in southeast Iceland with an elevation of 1.725 m. It is in the highlands of Iceland at the northwestern side of the Vatnajökull glacier.

It is the volcano which has the highest eruption frequency of all the volcanoes in Iceland. Last eruption was in 2004 – 1998 – 1996 – 1983 – 1938 – 1934 and 60 other euruptions  on historical time. The massive climate-impacting Laki fissure eruption of 1783–1784 was a part of the same fissure system.
